Kilfenora Timeline
The Kilfenora Timeline is a local voluntary project which has created a mobile exhibition that takes the visitor on a historic journey though the life of this community.
Situated in the ancient Barony of Corcomroe on the edge of the Burren, Kilfenora is first mentioned in the Book of Rights (450-900 AD). Noted throughout history for the quality of its produce, for its Ecclastical development, its survival through times of conflict and famine to its revitalisation through trade, education and music, Kilfenora continues as a vibrant community. The ancient Cathedral and High Crosses in particular attract people to Kilfenora.
The creation of The Burren Centre as a locally owned co-operative enterprise in 1975 to promote the uniqueness of this area is an example of a community that continues to strive towards the future. This is the principal interpretive centre for the Burren & Cliffs of Mogher Unesco Geopark. The original exhibition was expanded in 2000 and the exhibition itself is undergoing another make-over in 2021-2.
The Timeline was able to collect donations from visitors to its mobile exhibition, when it was on show in the Cathedral. It funded a number of improvement projects in the village. It also orchestrated the creation of a ‘time capsule’, which in March 2018 was placed inside a specially designed seat installed in Kilfenora’s ancient cathedral.
